The Seven Ds: Death (or “Handling a House After a Loss”)

Losing someone is hard. What makes it harder is when there’s a house to deal with… maybe the home full of memories, maybe full of stuff, and even more difficult, maybe shared by multiple people who don’t all agree.

We’ve seen a lot of these things:

• An inherited house sitting vacant

• Family members spread across different cities and sometimes different states

• A property that needs work before it could ever hit the market

• Everyone wants to “do the right thing,” but no one has time

That’s when selling to someone who will take it as-is is a relief. My wife and I buy houses in its current condition, we close on a clear timeline, and the family can move forward without months of showings or repairs. If the home needs cleaning out, we talk about that too.

This isn’t about “taking advantage.” It’s about giving a family a clean way to finish a hard chapter.

If you’ve inherited a property and need to talk through options, call me. We’ll walk you through what a cash sale would look like so you can choose what’s best for your family.
